Approximately 28.8 million U.S. adults could benefit from hearing aids. These tiny devices collect and amplify speech and other sounds to help improve your ability to understand speech. But the benefits of hearing aids extend further than simple amplification. They help you connect with others, participate in work meetings, have fun during after-work happy hours at Blaze Bangor and enjoy your favorite movies with greater clarity. Given all the benefits they provide, it’s no wonder that losing a hearing aid is one of the top worries for those who rely on them.
To help ease your worries, take a look at our step-by-step list for when you notice your hearing aids are missing.
Step One: Search Your Immediate Area
The moment you realize your hearing aids are missing, pause and take a thorough look around your immediate surroundings. You might have just misplaced them or dropped them nearby. Start by checking common spots like drawers, under tables and in your pockets—don’t forget purses and jacket pockets, too. Make sure to keep an eye on your feet while you search in case they’re sitting on the ground.
Step Two: Think About Other Lost Items
If you tend to misplace other items like your phone or keys, think about where you usually find them. Is it the sock drawer? The refrigerator? Wherever those “lost” items often turn up, check those places—you might have accidentally left your hearing aids there too!
Step Three: Check Your Smartphone App
Many hearing aid apps include a helpful “find my hearing aid” feature, similar to the tracking tools for smartphones or laptops. To use it, simply open your app and turn on this function. Depending on the type of app, it may offer one or more of the following:
- Approximate location tracking. The app shows you the general location of your hearing aids.
- Proximity detection. Some apps provide real-time feedback, letting you know if you’re getting closer to or farther from your devices, helping you pinpoint their exact spot.
- Last known location. If your hearing aids lose power, the app will display their last registered location.
If you follow these three steps and haven’t found your devices, contact your hearing specialist at Bangor Audiology to discuss the next steps, including getting new devices.
